Boston Legal...James Spader contacted me through a mutual friend in 2007 and asked me to put up a custom designed itinerary for his visit to Burgundy: biking, relaxing, good food and great winery visits (Vogue and below Jeremy Sesses from Dujac), a private dinner with the best non professional chef of France! We stayed at the very peaceful Hostellerie de Levernois. What a good time!

Hints and tips for a good day trip and wine tour in Burgundy

When you travel, do you Ever get the feeling that there is just not enough time to experience the essence of the region? There is an option for time optimizing vacationers who want to get the best in a limited time: enrol into a fun and privately guided day trip!

Trips price ranges from EUR 420 to EUR 550 per day. Some companies charge a fee per participant (usually EUR 180 to EUR 220.

Please note that wine tasting fees, museum entrance fees, lunch and gratuities are usually not included. If you opt for a biking day, rentals are not included (around EUR 20 a day per pers.).

The average tasting fee is EUR 10 per person. However most places will not charge you if you purchase wine. Only a couple of places allow you to collect the 19.6% TVA (VAT/GST) back if the wines are shipped overseas (USA East Coast - EUR 115 per case of 12 bottles / USA West Coast EUR 135 per case). This is actually a very good opportunity to get 1er Crus and Grand Crus wines at a friendly price! On top of that you can taste the wines you buy!

Native of Burgundy, Yannick Treffot started customizing trips for a US clientele in 2005. He previously owned and managed a hotel restaurant for ten years before stepping in the adventure travel world leading expeditions in Papua New Guinea and Venezuela. He worked as a tour coordinator for an American luxury biking tour operator in France and also has many years experience of following the Tour de France cycling event with international clients. Yannick lived in several countries and wine regions (Central Otago in New Zealand, Barossa Valley in Australia and Barolo in Piedmont). He recently moved to Vancouver with his family. He travels back to France from April to October every year.
